Balls at Your Feet Are a Trap
Balls at your feet look hittable. Swing out and you donate the rally. Reset or block instead.
A ball at your shoelaces is not an attack. It’s an invitation to miss.
It looks hittable. It’s in front of you. Your brain says “put it away.” Then you swing up from a jammed contact point and give them a sitter — or put it in the net. That’s the trap. The ball was never yours to attack.
The right answer is ugly and winning: lift, reset, or block back to their feet. You don’t have to like how it looks. You have to like still being in the rally.
Open play punishes the hero swing from the shoes. The player who moves up treats those balls as defense with a purpose, not a chance to finish.
Try this next session: Any ball that lands at your feet, your only allowed shot is a reset or a block. If you swing out, that’s the miss — even if it goes in.
This is the kind of thing a coach sees when they watch the whole match — not just the score. Film Room is where we do that with your session.
